ABOUT WELL COURT

Well Court is a historic residential building located in the heart of Dean Village in Edinburgh. It was commissioned in the 1880s by Sir John Findlay, who was then the owner of The Scotsman newspaper and was designed by renowned architect, Sydney Mitchell, in the Arts and Crafts style.

The building features ornate stonework and intricate details and carvings as well as a commemorative plaque above the archway entrance. It has a large central courtyard with drying area and a communal garden, providing residents with a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city.

Well Court was restored in the 1990s and converted into luxury apartments while preserving many of its original features. A further major restoration of the building, funded by Edinburgh World Heritage and the property owners, was carried out in 2007. Today, Well Court is considered one of Edinburgh's most iconic residential buildings and a testament to the city's architectural heritage.

ABOUT DEAN VILLAGE

Dean Village is a picturesque area located in the heart of Edinburgh, just a short walk from the city centre. It was once a separate village but is now a part of the city. The area is known for its beautiful historic buildings, cobbled streets, and stunning views of the Water of Leith, a river that flows through the village.

One of the most notable buildings in Dean Village is St. Bernard's Well, a neoclassical structure built in the late 18th century that is said to have healing properties. The village is also home to several other historic buildings, including Well Court.
